Second Thoughts is a magazine that invites readers to look — then look again. It brings together playful yet thoughtful reflections on LGBTQ+ cinema, arts, and cultures from East and Southeast Asia, their diasporas, and the wider Asian region. This pilot issue features twenty-four articles exploring contemporary and historical works, using creative criticism to highlight new perspectives on queer Asian storytelling and cultural expression. The publication grew out of Queer East’s Emerging Critics Project, launched in 2024 to support new voices writing about LGBTQ+ Asian cinema and culture. A second edition in 2025, run with Little White Lies, mentored six writers developing essays and interviews around the festival programme, alongside additional contributions from an open call. Together, these pieces challenge stereotypes and open space for conversations about what it means to be queer and Asian today.
